MG GM Dominance build retrospective

This is my first finished build of 2023. This also happens to be my first ever GM build in my 18(?) years of building Gunpla.

The GM Dominance (or Stormbringer actually) was one of the first P-Bandai kits that I ever ordered from The Hangar Bay and is also one of my “demon” kits from back when I first built it in 2020. I made several critical mistakes in regards to sanding and I felt (at the time) I kind of destroyed some parts like the arm gauntlets and the leg thrusters and thus needed to cannibalize a spare kit for the parts.

Fast forward to today and I kinda got the urge to build it after seeing Frosted Snow and various other people build theirs. So anyway I finally busted the rest of the kit open, repaired the leftover parts as best as I could and I gotta say it’s a pretty handsome design.

I did fix the ankle guard of doom using the same technique as last time, credits to Goodguydan.

  • the parts for ankle guard are painted (C19, C18, F11, E12, J8)
  • the frame for the ankle guard is assembled (F11 + J8 + E12)
  • the ankle guard armor goes over and the seam is sealed
  • the seam is sanded down and repainted

Painting

Light Grey – Gaianotes Neutral Grey III base coat, followed by Neutral Grey I highlight. I went back and another highlight using Mr Gundam Color MS White

Blue – White primer -> Gaianotes CB Cobalt Blue + bit of purple. White added for highlight, then original colour used to blend/postshade.

Red – Mahogany preshade, followed by Russet + bit of Shine Red.

Yellow – White primer -> Starter orange presahade -> coat of Orange Yellow + bit of Orange.

Dark Grey – Mr Gundam Color Phantom Grey + bit of Black base coat, then Gaianotes Neutral Grey III for highlight, then I used the original Phantom Grey to re-coat and blend it back.

Internals – Gaianotes Starbright Iron, for parts like the elbow joint I used Starbright Duralumin

Great work as usual! I am kind of using your colour scheme as inspiration for my next GM build! Thank you for sharing!
